Buchenwald
Concentration Camp - 1962
Main Entrance
Gate decorated with "Jedem Das Seine" (To Each As He Deserves)
Each
concentration camp's entrance was adorned with some sort of sardonic
slogan.
For a period after
the
camp was liberated in 1945 by the US Third Army Gen. Patton had the
former
prisoners confined in the
same
barracks they'd occupied under the Nazis. While most of the
buildings
were eventually demolished
several,
including the main entrance and the crematorium, were preserved as a
museum.
